Elegant style for elegant surrounds

The natural surrounds of a beautiful Kialla garden provided the perfect atmosphere for Rachel Broughton and Tom Preston to tie the knot. The couple exchanged vows beside a picturesque pond, with beautiful foliage all around, marking the beginning of their new life together.

Elegant style

After exchanging vows, the celebrations moved onto the reception venue which Rachel had decorated in an elegant theme with items she had mostly purchased from eBay. The table centrepieces consisted of mirrors, large glass vases and fresh flowers. “It was at the Parklake so it’s already quite an elegant venue anyway. We also had a big easel with pictures and things on it,” Rachel said.

Surprise entertainment

Rachel and Tom had an entertainment surprise up their sleeve for their guests. During the reception, singers from Melbourne company Singers For Hire entered the facilities -  disguised as a chef and waitress - and burst into song. The couple had seen them perform at a CFA dinner they attended a couple of years ago and decided to hire them for their wedding.  “Everyone was really surprised, we didn’t even tell the bridal table,” Rachel said.

Puppy love

Tom decided to use Rachel’s pet Toy Poodle puppy Charlie in his proposal, threading it onto his collar. “I saw the ring when we were playing with the ball with the puppy. Tom had kept trying to draw attention to the collar, but it took me a few minutes to see it,” Rachel said. “I was so excited and happy when I saw it.”

Merry meeting

For her 18th birthday, Rachel’s cousin surprised her with tickets to the Aussie Hotel’s annual Carols by Barrels event. “We got ready and had some pre-drinks at Tom’s house. We danced together at Carols by Barrels and shared a kiss that night, and started dating soon after,” Rachel said. For the next couple of years the pair continued attending the Christmas event together.
